The proposal is to strengthen the Opera House to between 70 and 75 per cent of building code.
The only other option is to demolish the 100-year-old structure. There is also a proposal to permanently roof the plaza area, to enable it to be used in all weathers. Council is recommending putting off strengthening the Municipal Buildings until more investigation is done on finding a use for it that justifies the cost of the work.
